FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder Rev 2940 2009-05-06
FFDshow is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, H.264, FLV1, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, MPEG-4 movies. It uses libavcodec from ffmpeg project for video decompression, postprocessing code from mplayer to enhance visual quality of low bitrate movies, and is based on original DirectShow filter from XviD, which is GPL’ed educational implementation of MPEG4 encoder. FFDshow can be configured to display subtitles, to enable or disable various built-in codecs, to grab screenshots, to enable keyboard control, and to enhance movies with increased resolution, sharpness, and many other post-processing filters. It has the ability to manipulate audio with effects like an equalizer, a Dolby decoder, reverb, Winamp DSP plugins, and more. Some of the postprocessing is borrowed from the MPlayer project and AviSynth filters.

MediaInfo supplies information about multimedia files (only if the information is available in that file): general information (title, author, director, album, track number, date, duration etc); information about the video (codec, aspect, fps, bitrate etc); information about the audio (codec, sample rate, channels, language, bitrate etc); information about the text (language of subtitle); information about chapters (count of chapters, list).

Codecs have been a problem for most users at one time or another. This is because there has never been an “out of the box” working solution that the average computer user could install and just have everything work properly from the beginning.
Vista Codec Package does not contain a media player. It does not associates filetypes.
