MediaCoder 0.7.1.4482 – Free Media Transcoder with CUDA support

leave a comment »

mediacoder-with-cuda-support

MediaCoder is a free universal batch media transcoder, which nicely integrates most popular audio/video codecs and tools into an all-in-one solution. With a flexible and extendable architecture, new codecs and tools are added in constantly as well as supports for new devices. MediaCoder intends to be the swiss army knife for media transcoding in all time. Millions of people are using the software all over the world. The latest version of MediaCoder also supports GPU acceleration if you have an Nvidia-based CUDA capable videocard in your system. This means a GeForce 8th series or newer video card is needed in order to take advantage of the new CUDA accelerated H.264 encoding present in MediaCoder. The idea is to take advantage of your video card’s processing power in order to achieve speed of video encoding that can be even a few times faster than by just using your dual or quad-core CPU only.

Features In Brief
– Converting to between most popular audio and video formats in batch
– Multi-threading design, optimized for multi-core processors (average CPU utilization on quad-core processors over 90%)
– Full control over transcoding parameters
– Simplified UI for popular mobile devices (e.g. PSP, iPhone/iPod)
– Fully standalone, no dependancy on system codecs/splitters
– Media Transcoding Platform to expand UI and improve user experience

Typical Applications
– Improving compression / reducing size for audio/video files
– Converting for audio/video playback devices (digital audio player, MP4 player, mobile phone, PDA, PSP, VCD/DVD player etc.)
– Extracting audio tracks from video files
– Ripping audio/video discs
– Reparing corrupted or partial downloaded video files

Supported Fomats
– MP3, Vorbis, AAC, AAC+/HE-AAC, AAC+v2/HE-AAC v2, MusePack, Speex, AMR, WMA, RealAudio, mp3PRO*
– FLAC, WavPack, Monkey’s Audio, OptimFrog, AAC Lossless, TTA, WAV/PCM, Waveform
– H.264, XviD, DivX, MPEG 1/2/4, Theora, Flash Video, Dirac, 3ivx*, RealVideo*, Windows Media Video
– AVI, MPEG/VOB, Matroska, MP4, PMP, RealMedia*, ASF, Quicktime*, OGM*
– CD, DVD, VCD, SVCD, CUESheet*, HTTP*, FTP*, RTSP*, UDP*

* are only supported as input files, you cannot export to them

Media Player Classic HomeCinema x86 1.2.1137

mpc-homecinema-1137

The Media Player Classic Home Cinema is an audio and video player with a lot of additional features. The project is based on the original “Media Player Classic” and was created after Gabest, the original author, stopped working on it. Several new features have been integrated in this player, such as:

– An option to remove Tearing
– Translations available in several different languages
– Additional video decoders and in particular H.264 and VC-1 with DXVA support
– Better support for Windows Vista, including a separate release for 64 bits platform
– Support for Vista’s new EVR renderer
– A lot of bug and vulnerability fixes

Modern graphics card offer the possibility to decode partially or completely a video stream using DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA), in order to reduce CPU usage dramatically. MPC-HC includes an embedded video decoder that uses this technology, to decode H.264 and VC-1 with hardly any CPU time required. Unfortunately the MPC-HC decoder only supports the “bitstream mode” at this stage, which means that only the most recent graphic cards are supported:

– nVidia series 8(9)xxx for H.264 only
– ATI Radeon HD series for H.264 and VC-1 decoding

handbrake-windows

HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows. With HandBrake you can convert any DVD-like source: VIDEO_TS folder, DVD image or real DVD (unencrypted – protection methods including CSS are not supported internally and must be handled externally with third-party software and libraries), and some .VOB and .TS files. And of course almost any multimedia file it can get libavformat to read and libavcodec to decode can also be converted.
HandBrake can convert in to the following video containers (formats): MP4, MKV, AVI and OGM. It supports MPEG-4, H.264 and Theora (1 or 2 passes or constant quantizer/rate encoding) video encoding and AAC, MP3, Vorbis and AC-3 pass-through (supports encoding of several audio tracks) for audio.

ffdshow-config1

FFDshow is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DivX, XviD, H.264, FLV1, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, MPEG-4 movies. It uses libavcodec from ffmpeg project for video decompression, postprocessing code from mplayer to enhance visual quality of low bitrate movies, and is based on original DirectShow filter from XviD, which is GPL’ed educational implementation of MPEG4 encoder. FFDshow can be configured to display subtitles, to enable or disable various built-in codecs, to grab screenshots, to enable keyboard control, and to enhance movies with increased resolution, sharpness, and many other post-processing filters. It has the ability to manipulate audio with effects like an equalizer, a Dolby decoder, reverb, Winamp DSP plugins, and more. Some of the postprocessing is borrowed from the MPlayer project and AviSynth filters.
