media-player-classic-homecinema-1-2-1101

The Media Player Classic Home Cinema project is based on the original “Media Player Classic” and was created after Gabest, the original author, stopped working on it. Several new features have been integrated in this player, such as:

– An option to remove Tearing
– Translations available in several divverent languages
– Additional video decoders and in particular H.264 and VC-1 with DXVA support
– Better support for Windows Vista, including a separate release for 64 bits platform
– Support for Vista’s new EVR renderer
– A lot of bug and vulnerability fixes

Modern graphics card offer the possibility to decode partially or completely a video stream using DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA), in order to reduce CPU usage dramatically. MPC-HC includes an embedded video decoder that uses this technology, to decode H.264 and VC-1 with hardly any CPU time required. Unfortunately the MPC-HC decoder only supports the “bitstream mode” at this stage, which means that only the most recent graphic cards are supported:

– nVidia series 8(9)xxx for H.264 only
– ATI Radeon HD series for H.264 and VC-1 decoding

Win7codecs 1.0.9 Final – Windows 7 Codecs

win7codecs

Codecs have been a problem for most users at one time or another. This is because there has never been an “out of the box” working solution that the average computer user could install and just have everything work properly from the beginning. The Win7codecs package does not change or interfere with what Microsoft has going on concerning native codec support in Windows Media Player 12 and Media Center. DXVA accelerated H264 playback is provided by the codec package for all other capable players. The installer will automatically remove most other popular codec releases from your computer before installing this concise yet comprehensive package, so there should be no codec conflicts. It does not contain a media player and it does not associate file-types. With this package installed you will be able to use any media player, limited only by the players’ capabilities, to play all movies and video clips. Streaming video is supported in several formats in all popular web browsers. Users of the Win7codecs have the ability to choose what is installed and where to install it using the public redistributable. After installation you can select to remove specific portions without removing the entire package. You can also re-add the removed items at any time.

This package supports 18 localizations. The default is English and the installer includes support for the following other languages; Chinese Simplified/Traditional, Japanese, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Polish, Swedish and Turkish. Languages can be added upon request.

gom-player

GOM Player includes many codecs (XviD, DivX, FLV1, AC3, OGG, MP4, H263 and more) so you won’t need to install separate codecs for most videos. For those videos that require a separate codec, GOM Player will find one and direct you to a place where you can download an open source version of the codec. That way, you won’t get stuck with unnecessary codecs on your system. GOM Player supports SMI, SRT, RT, SUB(with IDX) files for subtitle. You can specify margin, location, size, resolution, font and others. You can also enable shadow, view ASF files with subtitle, karaoke subtitle mode. You can even synchronize subtitle and video if there’s any mismatch. If you run a video file and there is already a file with a similar name in the directory, it will be automatically added to your playlist. GOM Player has a similar playlist format as M3U, PLS, ASX and you can also include and edit different media formats on that playlist as well. It’s easy to create and edit your own multimedia playlist with GOM Player. There are an endless number of advanced features. Customize brightness, contrast and saturation. Sharpen and add noise to your video. Try the audio equalizer. Repeat a section of your video with our A-B Repeat feature. Fast forward/rewind a few seconds using left/right keys. And much more for you to discover!

VLC Media Player 0.9.9 (VideoLAN)

videolan-vlc-media-player

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, …) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network. It doesn’t need any external codec or program to work. VLC includes a large number of free decoding and encoding libraries; on the Windows platform, this greatly reduces the need for finding/calibrating proprietary plugins. Many of VLC’s codecs are provided by the libavcodec library from the FFmpeg project, but it uses mainly its own muxer and demuxers. It also gained distinction as the first player to support playback of encrypted DVDs on Linux by using the libdvdcss DVD decryption library.

Output formats for streaming/encoding
– Container formats: ASF, AVI, FLV, Fraps, MP4, Ogg, Wav, MPEG-2 (ES, PS, TS, PVA, MP3), MPJPEG, FLAC, MOV
– Video formats: H.263, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, MJPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, VP5, VP6, Theora, DV
– Audio formats: AAC, AC3, DV Audio, FLAC, MP3, Speex, Vorbis
– Streaming protocols: UDP, HTTP, RTP, RTSP, MMS, File
